Modelizing: Iman's Daughter Struggled With Weight

Imagine having a supermodel mom? It may sound glamorous, but it probably isn't the easiest position in life when your body image isn't feeling 100%.  Zulekha Haywood, daughter of Iman, struggled when it came to weight and body image. Haywood, who once weighed over 320 pounds underwent gastric bypass. Her post-surgery bod currently brings her at about 168 pounds.

"I have more or less been on a diet since I was eight years old. None of them worked," she told Glamour. "An overweight kid and already dining for sport, my first was the 'basta' diet. At home, my mother, Iman, a beauty icon and devotee of clean eating, would whisper "basta" ('enough' in Italian) when I was in danger of overeating."

V Magazine SIZE Issue

When I initially wrote about this spread  last week, I was super excited about the concept. But now I'm a little disappointed that V Magazine can't put a plus size model in its pages without a 'regular' size model for comparison.

In The January issue V pairs plus-size model Crystal Renn with 'straight-size' model Jacquelyn Jablonksi, in the same outfits. The magazine says this "proves fashion can flatter any figure." The 8-page editorial was shot by Terry Richardson and is titled "One Size Fits All." Each model wore the same sample clothes, and they are purposefully styled the exact same way and posed very similarly. Do you like the shoot or do you feel like its just a game of "Spot the difference?"

To be completely honest...I don't think Crystal Renn looks "plus size" at all! In fact, most people work extra hard just to get her body! For the purpose of accuracy check out both models measurements:

Jacquelyn: 5 ft, 9 in; 32"/24"/34"
Crystal: 5 ft, 9 in; 36"/31"/41"

Ralph Lauren Controversy

I love Mr.Lauren for many reasons (ps: you do know his from the bx, right?)- so It saddened me to hear that all this drama was going down with his models. You might have already seen the ridiculous photoshopped Ralph Lauren ad featuring Filippa Hamilton. After everyone cried "outrage" over the pic, Ralph Lauren issued an apology saying they take full responsibility.

You would think that a girl who is 5'10" and 120lbs should never be labeled overweight, right? What kind of message are these advertisers sending to the public?On the Today show this morning, Filippa said Ralph Lauren fired her because "they said I was overweight and I couldn't fit in their clothes anymore. I'm very proud of what I look like, and I think a role model should look healthy."

Ralph Lauren confirmed to the NYDN that they pink-slipped Filippa "as a result of her inability to meet the obligations under her contract with us."

What do you think the next ad should look like? I've seen a few funny suggestions... (I still love you Ralph, but what were you guys thinking?)
