Latinos On Television- I Bet You Didn't Even Realize

I get very giddy when I see Latino's on television, because the truth is... we don't ever really get to play ourselves. I mean, how many of you actually knew that Zoe Saldana was a Dominicana when you first saw her in the film Center Stage? Even J.Lo played an Italian mami in The Wedding Planner. And don't get me started on the one's who try to dismiss their roots (Jessica Alba, Cameron Diaz, etc)....
While our cross-over rate is still growing rapidly, we want some love for the Latino's out there right now! But who are they, where are they and what have they done? Are they winning awards or better yet...are they getting nominated?
The 16th Annual Screen Actor’s Guild nominations were announced this morning in Hollywood, and while Latino TV stars didn’t get a single nomination in the six individual acting categories—we did fairly well in two categories that recognize the outstanding achievements of TV ensembles.
SAG has nominated the cast of Showtime's Dexter in the category of “Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.” Which means, David Zayas and his co-stars Courtney Ford and Lauren Velez were all nominated for their superb performances as part of the cast. Sofia Vergara also received a nomination for her ABC comedy Modern Family - which lands in the "Best Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series" category. Oscar Nunez was nominated for his work in The Office, and Naya Rivera received her first SAG nomination via Glee's ensemble.
Not bad, ey?
