G-Star Embraces Twitter Influence During Fashion Week

Social media hits a new high with the latest Fashion Week initiative by G-Star.
For the brand's Fall 2010 show- they will be extending invites to social media users and asking them to report live from the runway. The "world's best Tweeters, Flickrs, Facebookers, and YouTube film-makers" will be hand-picked to fly to New York and enjoy the show--front row, back stage, after party and all. If you are interested in submitting yourself, head over to nyfw.g-star.com. The winners, one writer, one photographer, and one film-maker will be selected by the public (although G-Star also reserves the right to hand select).
I love the fact that companies want to embrace non-traditional media, but I don't like it when they don't apply this notion to all of their initiatives. Exploiting bloggers & tweets just for the sake of becoming a trending topic? How about the web journalists and editors who provide good content year round and want to be a part of your show? Journalists who have reach far beyond twitter? LAME!!!
Anyhow- the deadline for entries is February 1, with the winners being announced on February 5. New York's Fashion Week begins February 11.

Hi Kari, thnx for the post! Just to clarify a little: We will of course always invite journalists en professional editors to our shows as well, they produce great content which we love. It's a good thing a lot of journalists now blog and tweet as well though, it speeds up the news and it becomes more interactive.
However, we also believe there's a lot of raw talent out there amongst the non-professional writers, film makers and photographers, and those are the people we would now also like to send to NY. We seriously think they can make real pretty stuff too.
Does this mean that I can expect an Invite? I got turned down at the last show. (and I've been published in Print magazines as well)
My email is here- I hope to hear from your team soon!
